The International Data Corporation (IDC) reports that whereas workstations and laptops decreased by 11% and 14%, respectively, over the previous year, the desktop category increased by 6.7%.

According to Bharath Shenoy, Senior Research Analyst at IDC India, “low market sentiments following the pandemic led to reduced consumer demand, resulting in a steep shipment correction in the second half of 2022 and the first half of 2023.”

Following a sluggish first half, the market as a whole recovered in the second half of 2023 (2H23), growing by 12.9% (year over year). The fourth quarter of 2023 (4Q23) had a year-over-year growth of 11.4%, driven by increases in desktop and notebook PC sales of 16.8% and 9.9%, respectively.

According to the survey, HP topped the charts in both the commercial and consumer divisions, with shares of 33.6 percent and 29.4 percent, respectively, and dominated the market with a share of 31.5 percent last year.

Lenovo came in second place with a 16.7% share, followed by Dell Technologies in third place with a 15.5% share. Dell Technologies had a sharp fall of 24.5% (year over year) in 2023.
