Harry Maguire is ‘angry, shocked, and upset’ after losing the Manchester United captaincy, prompting Chelsea to consider a bid

Harry Maguire was ‘mad, astonished, and disappointed’ after being relieved of his captaincy of Manchester United after discussions with manager Erik ten Hag.

A report claims that Maguire is being pursued by Chelsea in an unexpected transfer, along with interest from West Ham, Tottenham, and Newcastle United. Inter Milan and the Saudi clubs Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal are also in need of center backs, in addition to Premier League teams.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-82213″ src=”” alt=”” width=”1142″ height=”597″ srcset=” 310w,×78.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1142px) 100vw, 1142px” />

The English defender’s few appearances under Ten Hag last season led to reports earlier this month that the Dutchman was prepared to fire Maguire from the position. In June, a number of teams offered to loan out Harry Maguire, but Old Trafford wanted a clean split and at least £50 million. The current asking price is £30 million.

Maguire said on Twitter, “After discussions with the manager today, he has informed me he is changing captain.”

“He explained his reasoning to me, and even though I’m personally very dissatisfied, I’ll keep giving it my best each time I wear the shirt, he said. I wanted to express my gratitude to the Manchester United supporters for their unwavering support when I was in the captain’s chair.

“It’s been a huge privilege to lead Manchester United since the day I took on the role, three and a half years ago, and one of the proudest moments of my career to date,” Maguire said.

“Whoever now takes it on will have my full support, and I wish them success.”

Only eight Premier League starts were made by the center back last year, which fueled continuous rumors over his future at Old Trafford.

Bruno Fernandes was most often named captain during Harry Maguire’s absence from the team last season, and it is anticipated that the Portugal midfielder will be granted the permanent position.

“Everyone at Manchester United thanks Harry for his contribution as captain over the past three and a half years,” the club stated in a statement. After informing the players, the management would “announce the new captain in due course.”

Since joining United in 2019 and leaving Leicester for 80 million pounds (now $105 million), Maguire has made over 170 appearances for the club.
