A multi-year contract with former Premier League coach Owen Coyle is announced by Chennaiyin FC for the ISL 2023–24 season

On Sunday, Chennaiyin FC made the much-anticipated announcement that Owen Coyle will be returning as their head coach for the 2023–24 season on a multi-year contract.

The seasoned Scotsman, who has three Premier League Manager of the Month Awards under his belt, is well-known in the Indian football scene. His most recent term with Chennaiyin FC saw him take the team all the way to the 2019–20 Hero ISL championship game with eight victories.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-80412″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-a-multi-year-contract-with-former-premier-league-coach-owen-coyle-is-announced-by-chennaiyin-fc-for-the-isl-202324-season-download-2023-07-16t165837.292.jpg” alt=”” width=”1121″ height=”628″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-a-multi-year-contract-with-former-premier-league-coach-owen-coyle-is-announced-by-chennaiyin-fc-for-the-isl-202324-season-download-2023-07-16t165837.292.jpg 300w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-a-multi-year-contract-with-former-premier-league-coach-owen-coyle-is-announced-by-chennaiyin-fc-for-the-isl-202324-season-download-2023-07-16t165837.292-150×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1121px) 100vw, 1121px” />

Having Owen back in Chennaiyin colors makes us very happy. We have all seen what Owen is capable of in India since he is a local. Vita Dani, a co-owner of Chennaiyin, said, “He’s the appropriate guy to lead our youthful club ahead and we’re pleased to have him back home.

The 57-year-old won the ISL League Shield in 2021–2022 with Jamshedpur FC, earning 43 points—the most ever at the time in the competition’s history.

One of the biggest football leagues in the world, the English Premier League, has used Coyle as a coach. By beating Sheffield United in the 2008–09 Play-Off Final, he ensured Burnley’s promotion to the EPL in his first season as manager in England. Later, he moved on to Bolton, where Coyle built a tough EPL team that in his first season made it to the FA Cup semifinals. Coyle also had success when playing for the Houston Dynamos in Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States.

Most recently, he served as the head coach of Queen’s Park Football Club in Scotland’s second division, where he led them to a third-place finish in the league stage, enabling them to enter the Scottish Premier Division promotion playoffs.

“Really excited to be back at Chennaiyin FC,” Coyle said with excitement. The previous time was an amazing experience. We want to strive to build on the wonderful achievements the club has already achieved. We all recognize that it will be difficult, but we like the challenge that comes with it in football. I’m eager to build on the club’s recent triumphs for our devoted supporters and I hope to see them soon.

Coyle has a lengthy and fruitful playing career as a striker. He played in the Scottish Premier League for teams like Motherwell and Dundee United in addition to the English Premier League. He has scored more than 300 goals overall.

Owen won’t be allowed to take over the squad until August as he must fulfill the terms of his former contract with Queens Park FC.
